UPTET 2023 | Selection Process

Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board conducts UPTET exam in order to shortlist eligible candidates to become teachers in various government schools in the state at the Primary level (Class I to Class V) and Upper Primary level (Class VI to Class VIII).

Candidates applying for the UPTET 2023 will be selected based on the following criteria:

UPTET written exam consist two papers, UPTET Paper I need to be given by candidates who want to teach Class I to Class V, that is at the primary level whereas UPTET Paper-II needs to be given by the candidates who want to become teachers for Class VI to Class VIII, that is at upper primary level. 

General category candidates who secure 60% marks in UPTET would be considered to have qualified UPTET exam whereas reserved category students who secure 55% marks would qualify the UPTET  teacher eligibility test.

Candidates who qualify the exam would be given the eligibility certificate which will be valid for a lifetime.

Earlier, the validity of the UPTET score was five years and candidates had to reappear for the exam. Now, the score will be valid for a lifetime.

UPTET Exam Pattern

Before we discuss UPTET syllabus, Let’s go through the exam pattern & the marking scheme of UPTET 2023 as stated earlier the exam consist of two papers.

Now, let’s see below what is the exam pattern of UPTET (Paper 1 & Paper 2) respectively.

The pattern for both the papers in UPTET 2023 is more or less similar. However, the sections and their difficulty level vary as per the paper chosen.

Highlights of UPTET Exam Pattern 2023

  • UPTET Exam consists of two papers: Paper I (Primary Level) and Paper II (Upper Primary Level).
  • UPTET Paper I is for the candidates who want to teach Class I to Class V while Paper 2 is for the ones who want to teach Class VI to Class VIII.
  • However, one can appear for both UPTET Paper I and Paper II.
  • There are five subjects in Paper I while 4 subjects in Paper II. 
  • There are 150 questions in each paper that has to be completed in 150 minutes. 
  • All questions carry equal marks i.e, maximum marks equal to 150.
  • No negative marking is there for an incorrect answer or an unattempted question.

Section 5- Environmental Studies.

Family Personal relationships, nuclear and joint families, social abuses (child marriage, dowry system, child labor, theft); addiction (intoxication, smoking) and its personal, social and economic bad effects.

Clothes and Habitats – Clothes for different seasons; maintenance of clothes at home; handloom and power loom; habitats of living beings, various types of houses; cleanliness of houses and neighboring areas; Different types of materials for building houses.

Profession – Profession of your surroundings (stitching clothes, gardening, farming, animal rearing, vegetable vendor, etc.), small and cottage industries; major industries of Rajasthan State, Need for consumer protection, co-operative societies.

Public places and Institutions – Public places like school, hospital, post office, bus stand, railway station; Public property (street light, road, bus, train, public buildings, etc.); wastage of electricity and water; employment policies; general information about Panchayat, legislative assembly, and parliament.

Transport and Communication – Means of transport and communication; Rules for pedestrians and transport; Effects of means of communication on the lifestyle.

Personal Hygiene – External parts of our body and their cleanliness; general information about the internal parts of the body; Balance diet and its importance; Common diseases (gastroenteritis, amoebiosis, methemoglobin, anemia, fluorosis, malaria, dengue.) their causes and methods of prevention; Pulse Polio campaign.
