What SSC stands for?
The “full form of SSC is Staff Selection Commission”. As you will find out from the full form of SSC, it is a commission that selects the employees under various ministries of the central government.
As you know central government offices are located in every corner of our country and employees are required to work there, To fill these posts, an examination is conducted every year by the central government, which is known by the name of SSC.
Thus, SSC is an established organization under the central government of India which works for the recruitment of employees for various ministries and departments and the government institutions under it.
The headquarters of SSC is located in the capital city of India, New Delhi. The Commission is associated with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which consists of a chairman, two members, and a secretary cum exam controller.
The Subordinate Service Commission was formed on 4 November 1975 by the Government of India (GoI). On 26 September 1977, the Subordinate Services Commission was renamed to the Staff Selection Commission, commonly known as SSC. Till now, the SSC has been actively involved in selecting employees for various Group B and Group C posts.
What are the functions of SSC?
Some of the major functions of the SSC i.e Staff Selection Commission are:
- To organize recruitment process for the vacancy in Group B posts in the ministries, departments and subordinate offices of the Government of India and To organize recruitment process for filling non-technical posts in Group C posts in Ministries, Departments of Government.
- To conduct competitive examinations and various types of interviews for the fulfillment of the post- vacancies falling within their area of work.
- To conduct various types of examinations for the promotion of the employees inside the department from lower post to upper post.
- From time to time to conduct typing tests in both Hindi and English languages for the post of typist required in various central government offices.

SSC CGL – What is SSC CGL Full Form?
The “full form of the SSC CGL exam is the Combined Graduate Level exam”. The CGL exam is conducted by SSC and as the full form of CGL suggests, those students can give this exam who have completed their graduation.
The CGL exam is taken in three stages which are given below. Apart from these three steps, the skill test is also taken in which knowledge of computer and typing speed is tested.
- Tier 1 – As the word tier-1 suggests, it’s the Preliminary exam of SSC CGL. The exam consists of four subjects namely, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension. In the SSC CGL Tier -1 paper, 25 questions of 50 marks are asked from each category, thus 100 questions of a total of 200 marks are asked.
- Tier 2 – Under this, the questions are asked from Quantitative Ability and General English categories. 100-100 questions are asked from both categories for which the total marks is 200. A total time of 2 hours is given to answer the questions asked in this exam.
- Tier 3 – In the third tier of SSC CGL, the test of writing essays and letters is kept for the candidates. You have to write it by yourself. The answer can be given in two languages, that is, you can write your answer in any language Hindi or English.
- Skill Test – There are some posts inside CGL for which knowledge of computer is compulsory and at the same time it is important to have a good typing speed of Computer as well, hence knowledge of computer and typing speed skill is seen by taking this exam.

SSC CHSL – What is SSC CHSL Full Form?
The “full form of SSC CHSL is the Combined Higher Secondary Level exam”. The CHSL exam is conducted by SSC for the students who had passed their Intermediate exam.
The SSC CHSL exam is completed in three steps which are given below:
- Tier 1 – The exam consists of objective questions from four subjects namely, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. In the SSC CHSL Tier -1 paper, 25 questions of 50 marks are asked from each category, thus 100 questions of total of 200 marks are asked.
- Tier 2 – This is a descriptive exam in which the test of writing essay and letter is kept for the candidates. You have to write it by yourself. The answer can be given in two languages, that is, you can write your answer in any language Hindi or English
- Tier 3 – This is a skill test for the candidates who had passed the Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam. Under this, you have to qualify Typing Test & Interview.
SSC JE – What is SSC JE Full Form?
The “full form of SSC JE is a Junior Engineer exam”. The SSC JE exam is conducted by Staff Selection Commission every year for the recruitment of Junior Engineers (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Quantity Surveying and Contracts) posts for various Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India.
The SSC JE Exam comprises of two stages which are given below:
- Paper I (Computer-based Test) – SSC JE Paper 1 is divided into 3 sections namely: General Intelligence, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical). It is a computer based test and has multiple choice questions. SSC JE Paper 1 consists of 200 questions of a total of 200 marks to be attempted in a duration of 2 hours.
- Paper-II (Descriptive/Written Test) – SSC JE Paper 2 is a descriptive paper and is based on the candidates’ specialization in Engineering. Candidates who cleared paper 1 will be eligible to appear in paper 2. It will consist of descriptive type questions for a total of 300 marks to be attempted in a duration of 2 hours.

SSC GD – What is SSC GD Full Form?
The “full form of SSC GD is the General Duty exam”. The SSC GD exam is conducted by Staff Selection Commission for the recruitment of Constable in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Secretariat Security Force (SSF), and Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles.
The SSC GD Exam is conducted in three phases which are given below:
- Computer Based Test (CBT) – The Computer based examination will consist of one objective type paper containing questions from four subjects General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, English/Hindi. In the exam 25 questions are asked from each subject, Each question carries 1 mark and the time duration for the exam will be 2 hours (120 minutes).
- Physical Standard Test/ Physical Efficiency Test – SSC GD Physical Test is a very important phase of the SSC GD Exam. The candidates who manage to qualify the CBT of SSC GD are shortlisted for this phase. All candidates will have to undergo physical endurance & measurement test. The Physical test doesn’t carry any marks but it is very crucial for you to clear it. If you fail in the physical test then you won’t be getting the job of SSC GD Constable.
- Medical Examination – The Candidates who cleared the Physical Standard Test/ Physical Efficiency Test phase will be shortlisted for the Detailed Medical Examination. The purpose of the medical examination is to ensure that only medically fit candidates are recruited in the SSC GD constable post.
SSC CPO – What is SSC CPO Full Form?
The “full form SSC CPO is Central Police Organization Exam”. The SSC CPO exam is conducted by Staff Selection Commission to recruit the candidates for the post of Sub-Inspector (SI) in Delhi Police, in Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and CISF Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
SSC CPO examination is conducted in four different phases which are given below:
- Paper I – SSC CPO paper 1 consists of objective type questions from four subjects namely, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language & Comprehension. In the exam 50 questions are asked from each subject, Each question carries 1 mark and the time duration for the exam will be 2 hours (120 minutes).
- Paper II – SSC CPO paper 2 is a descriptive exam in which the test of writing essay and letter is kept for the candidates. You have to write it by yourself. It will consist of questions for a total of 200 marks to be attempted in a duration of 2 hours.

The Staff Selection Commission conducts two papers for the SSC MTS exam :
- Paper I – SSC MTS paper 1 consist of objective type questions from four subjects namely, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language & Comprehension. In the exam 25 questions are asked from each subject, Each question carries 1 mark and the time duration for the exam will be 90 minutes.
- Paper II – SSC MTS paper 2 is a descriptive exam in which the test of writing essay and letter is kept for the candidates. You have to write it by yourself. It will consist of questions for a total of 50 marks to be attempted in a duration of 30 minutes.

SSC JHT – What is SSC JHT Full Form?
The “full form of SSC JHT is Junior Hindi Translator”. The SSC JHT exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for the recruitment for Junior Hindi Translator posts in various departments and offices under the Central Government of India.
The Staff Selection Commission conducts two papers for the SSC JHT exam :
- Paper I – SSC JHT paper 1 consists of objective type questions, the questions will be designed to test the candidates‟ understanding of the languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms, and ability to write the languages correctly, precisely and effectively. In the exam 100 questions are asked from each subject, Each question carries 1 mark and the time duration for the exam will be 120 minutes.
- Paper II – SSC JHT paper 2 is a descriptive exam, The paper will contain two passages for the translation-one passage for translation from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi, and an Essay each in Hindi and English, to test the candidates‟ translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively. It will consist of questions for a total of 200 marks to be attempted in a duration of 120 minutes.
SSC Stenographer – What is stenographer Grade C & Grade D?
SSC Stenographer Exam is conducted by the commission to recruit eligible candidates for Stenographer Grade C and Grade D non-gazetted posts in various government ministries, departments and offices.
The SSC Stenographer selection process comprises of two stages:
- CBT – The candidates who successfully register for the Stenographer exam are called to appear for the first stage of SSC Stenographer Grade C & D. The CBT is an online examination comprising three sections, General Awareness, English Language & Comprehension, and General Intelligence & Reasoning. The total marks for the computer-based test are 200. Candidates have to complete the CBT exam in 2 hours. One mark is awarded for each right answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer.
- Skill Test – All those candidates who clear the computer-based exam have to appear for the skill test in stenography. The Skill Test is basically conducted to test the speed of candidates. In this stage, candidates are given a dictation in English or Hindi for 10 minutes. Candidates, in order to qualify in this test, are required to type the dictation at the speed of 100 words per minute for Stenographer Grade C post and 80 words per minute for Grade D post.
