What is the eligibility criteria to get EWS certificate?

Some special criteria have been specially prepared for EWS reservation, on the basis of which reservation will be given to only a few upper castes who fall under the following written criteria: –

Annual Income:- Annual reservation up to eight lakhs has been fixed for upper caste reservation. Whoever can earn less than 8 lakhs of income in a year, only those people will be given the benefit of this facility.

But during the passage of this bill in Parliament, Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that in future state governments could increase or decrease the annual income limit of eight lakhs.

At the moment, there is no new confirmation on this issue and a limit of eight lakhs has been set.

Agricultural land:- Under the ten percent upper caste reservation, the extent of agricultural land of the person has also been fixed.

Reservation will be given to those under general category only if the agricultural land is less than 5 acres.

Despite being a Savarna, if a person has more than five acres of land, he does not come under this scheme nor can he apply for reservation.

Living House:- A limit of 2000 square feet has been set for the upper castes in the village. A person’s house should be built only within the prescribed limit.

The reservation limit has also been fixed for the general class people living in the city, but only those urban people are covered under it, whose house is within the 1000 square feet.

Having all these criteria is compulsory for general category people and only then they can be included in the list of EWS reservation.

Which family member’s income will count for the EWS certificate?

As has already been clarified by the government that the annual income of the entire family should be less than ₹ 800000.

Only then the members of such families will be provided with the benefit of EWS reservation system.

Income of the following persons will be added to the annual income of ₹ 800000 –

Online Application Process for EWS Certificate

Talking about the online process of applying for EWS certificate, for this you must first go to the official website of ServicePlus https://serviceonline.gov.in/ by the Government of India.

After the ServicePlus website opens, you will see the option to Register Yourself in the Citizen section on the Home tab of the website, where you will have to register yourself.

After registration, you will see the option of login on the right side upwards on the same page, from there you login to the website.

As soon as you login, a page will open in front of you, the option for Apply for Services will appear in the left side of the page, as soon as you click on it, you will see the option of View All Available Services, which you have to press on.

On clicking, many citizen services will be visible to you, here you will first have to select your state and then type the economic weaker section in the given search bar. You will get two services as soon as you search, namely,

1- Issuance of Economically Weaker Section Certificate at CO level

2- Issuance of Economically Weaker Section Certificate at SDO level

Then, Click on any level from which you have to get an EWS certificate. The application process for both levels are same.

On clicking any one of the above options, a new page of EWS application form will open in front of you, in which you have to fill the details asked.

After filling the correct information in the EWS application form, you have to submit the application form by clicking on the submit button below.

As soon as you click on Submit Button, an application number with filled details will appear in front of you, which you should check thoroughly whether your details are correct or not!

If you feel that you have entered something wrong in the EWS form and want to edit it, there is an option to edit below, from there you can edit and if all the details are correct, then take a print of it and keep it for future reference.

After this, next to Edit, you will see the option of Attach Annexure in which you have to click.

As soon as you click, a page of the attachment will open, in which you will have to upload a scanned copy of your identity and click on the Save Annexure.

You can give all these documents in the identity card:

  1. Voter ID
  2. Aadhar Card
  3. MNREGA job card
  4. Driving license
  5. Pan Card
  6. Passport
  7. Service Identity Card (Center, State, Public) 
  8. Passbook (issued by bank or post office with photos)
  9. Smart Card (released under the scheme of Ministry of Labor)
  10. Health Insurance Smart Card (issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labor)
  11. Pension documents (including photos)
  12. Government ID (issued to MPs, MLAs and MLAs)

Note: If you have asked for other relevant documents, you should scan and upload it as stated. The above list of documents varies from state to state according to their rules. Applicants are therefore advised to visit the EWS certificate issuing authority and collect all important information.

After this, you will again get a receiving page with the details of the applicant, where you will have to go down and click on the submit button!

By clicking on submit button, finally your EWS certificate form will be submitted! And once approved, you will get the EWS certificate in a few days!

Offline Application Process for EWS Certificate

Talk about the process of making EWS certificate offline, for this you will have to download the EWS certificate format by clicking on the EWS certificate format.

Take a print of the EWS certificate format from the nearest cyber shop, along with necessary documents like

  • Identity card
  • income certificate
  • caste certificate
  • Pan Card.
  • Bpl card
  • Bank statements (if asked), take a copy of these as well.

1. District Magistrate (DM) /Additional District Magistrate (ADM) / Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/ Additional Deputy Commissioner/ 1st Class Stipendary/ Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Executive Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner

2. Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate

3. Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar

4. Sub-Divisional Officer or the area where the applicant or his family normally resides.

What is the Application fee for EWS Certificate?

EWS Certificate applicants are also required to make a payment of a nominal application fee. The amount of application fee depends on the authority issuing the EWS certificate and also on the State Government.

What is the Validity of EWS Certificate?

The validity of the EWS category certificate is defined by the competent authority issuing it. Each certificate will have a specific period of validity time. Typically, an EWS certificates are valid for one year.
